The TVR Cerbera was manufactured by TVR between 1996 and 2003 and the 4.5 litre V8 Cerbera was in effect the flagship sports car for the TVR range during this period. Named after the mythical Greek monster with 3 heads that guarded Hades, the Cerberus, the Cerbera was the most powerful TVR produced under Peter Wheeler’s reign at Blackpool.
First shown to the public in 1994 at the Birmingham Motor Show the TVR Cerbera was an instant success with the crowds and represented a change of direction for TVR. It was the first 2+2 fixed head from the TVR stable and was also the first TVR to be powered by in house TVR designed and created engines.
Prior to the TVR Cerbera all TVRs had be powered by mass produced engines from a variety of sources, Rover and Ford being prime examples, but TVR under Peter Wheeler had embarked on the ambitious program of developing not 1 but 2 engine variants. Developed in house by Al Melling, John Ravenscroft and Peter himself the V8 was designated the AJP V8 from the initials of their first names. Based on race engine design the V8 was believed to carry across many aspects of F1 design to the bottom end.
Following the design of the TVR AJP V8 engine the engineers focused their attention on the TVR Speed Six engine which was to be a straight 6 cylinder, twin camshaft, 24 valve, dry sump performance engine to power the coming range of TVRs.
This TVR Speed 6 engine was first fitted to the TVR Cerbera Speed 6 in 1998-1999. Early versions of this engine in the TVR Cerbera were somewhat different to later versions in a number of respects. The first batch of these engines for instance was design/manufactured without a crankshaft damper of any sort and these engines rapidly became a problem as they suffered timing chain failures. These early Cerberas were quickly recalled and major modifications were required to retro fit crankshaft dampers as there were complications with the proximity of the chassis.
The TVR Cerbera Speed 6 remained the development platform for the Speed 6 engine as for a period of time the Cerbera was the only car powered by this engine until the Tuscan was launched. Unfortunately this led to a reputation of unreliability which blighted both the engine and the TVR Cerbera Speed Six for some years.
The TVR Cerbera Speed Six was available until about 2004 by which time many of the initial teething problems had been resolved.
The TVR Speed 6 engine continued on powering all of the TVR range of cars until production ceased in late 2006 by which time some 4500 engines had been put into TVRs for the enjoyment of the high performance orientated driver.
The TVR Cerbera is one of the fastest sportscars of all time but has a long-legged Intercontinental touring ability that puts it into a class of its own. TVR has long been a byword for towering performance but the Cerbera took this into a different league. At the same time, it was also TVR's first fixed head coupe for over a decade and gives TVR owners with children an extra option as it is also a 2+2. It was available in four different variants each with a quite different character. The refined Cerbera Speed Six is quieter and rides more gently than the others which get progressively more sporting in nature until you get to the immensely powerful 4.5 with Red Rose conversion.
There are few cars as dramatic as the TVR Cerbera. From its optional gas discharge headlights to its twin stainless steel exhaust pipes, the Cerbera is one of those cars that looks like its going fast when it's standing still. Although it could not be mistaken for anything other than a very modern TVR, its bloodline is very much in the tradition of the British sportscars. From 2002 its lines were even smoother with the headlight housings now being blended into the wings.
The interior of the Cerbera is absolutely unique. The original concept of the Cerbera was to provide TVR owners with the option of a two plus two. The extra length in the wheelbase makes it possible to carry two children in the back or smaller adults over short distances. The leather-trimmed seats reflect the cars dual purpose in that they are supremely comfortable over long distances while providing lateral support when cornering hard. The boot is commodious and can carry an astonishing amount of luggage for a touring holiday or a set of golf clubs. All the instruments are clustered around the steering wheel, perfectly in the driver's line of sight and even the ventilation system has been thoughtfully designed and is able to supply cold air to the driver's face to keep them alert while keeping the rest of the cabin warm.
Towards the end of TVR’s existence in 2006 an online auction was held for the last TVR Cerbera built especially for this occasion. This last car was a 4.5 V8 lightweight right-hand drive car in Pepper White with Prussian blue leather interior trim.

The Cerbera brings the type of performance to everyone that has previously only been experienced by racing drivers out on the track. In all its variants, the Cerbera is one of the fastest cars on the market, thanks to its remarkably light honeycomb composite bodywork and race derived range of TVR engines. But endowed with the might of the AJP V8 4.5 litre the TVR Cerbera really is an awesome beast and capable of extreme acceleration and top speeds. The TVR Cerbera is also available with the 4.2 litre AJP V8 engine and the TVR Speed 6; in fact it was the first TVR to have the TVR Speed 6 engine fitted.
Massive AP racing brakes all round haul the Cerbera down from speed rapidly, smoothly and repeatedly without fade and in 2002 the suspension set up was further tuned to give improved traction and ride at the same time as high-speed body control.
The TVR Cerbera really is an awesome vehicle but because of it power and capability it does require commensurate levels of service and maintenance. Cheap Cerberas on the open market should be treated carefully as they may require significant levels of expenditure to bring them up to speed and early Speed 6 Cerberas were also known to be unreliable.
TVR Cerberas are not available new due to the demise of the TVR factory so are only available used or pre-enjoyed! Like all TVRs it is getting increasingly hard to find very good examples of the TVR Cerbera on the secondhand market but Racing Green TVR tries to ensure it has TVR Cerberas in stock or can source particular examples to order.

Battery charger auto CTEKCTEK battery management system for all TVR models. The CTEK MXS 3.8 battery charger is ideal for use in any vehicle with a battery capacity of up to 130 Ah. It can be safely left connected indefinitely to ensure that a battery is in peak condition when it's needed. It is completely safe to use and waterproof. It will charge batteries at a constant rate of 3.8 Amps per hour unlike conventional linear chargers which may be rated at 10 Amps or more but which can rapidly drop down to as little as 1 Amp. Racing Green TVR can fit the CTEK into the boot and hardwire this into your TVR allowing you to simply plug the unit into the mains to ensure the battery is kept fully charged for when you want to use your car. This is the larger capacity 3.8 amp CTEK MXS 3.8 charger as the earlier 3600 version is no longer available.
Ctek cigarette lighter socket leadAllows the battery to be charged via the cigarette lighter socket inside the vehicle*, thus removing the need to lift the bonnet to charge the battery. It is also ideal if the battery is awkwardly placed in the vehicle or requires tools to remove a cover over the battery.
Engine management system, SyvecsRacing Green TVR has developed the ideal engine management system for TVR engines. Following on from the TVR Speed 6 development program Racing Green TVR has decided that the Syvecs Engine Management system is ideal for all TVR applications that normally run the standard old MBE systems. MBE was the chosen engine management system for the new range of TVRs after the TVR Chimaera and TVR Griffith and was first used on the TVR Cerbera V8s when they were launched in 1996. Given the vast progress since the early to mid 1990's in electronics, engine management and engine control sensors it is not a great surprise that there is a significantly better system available for all the TVRs out there on the roads. Syvecs is a race derived engine management system and has been developed by the hugely successful Life Racing Company which is the sister company to Advanced Engine Research. AER provides race engines for many successful race teams and its victories have included Le Mans 24 hour winners. To create the engine management capability to support its impressive race engines it has a LifeRacing. The Syvecs S6GP was developed by LifeRacing for Syvecs and this is the ECU that Racing Green TVR recommends for TVRs. Syvecs produce ECUs for the highest level of motorsport and until recently have only been available to the Motorsport Industry. The programming is of the highest levels and also provides for optional sophisticated switchable traction control. Traction control is fully switchable from an 8 position switch and allows no traction control through to get you home on slicks on black ice!!!! This level of control has not been available to TVR owners before and is now available for all Speed 6 engined cars and AJP V8s. The Rover V8 as fitted to the TVR Chimaera and TVR Griffith is also another candidate for this ECU but as of yet Racing Green TVR has not had the opportunity to fit the Syvecs to such a car but no doubt will do shortly. Utilising advanced engine sensors allows for the extraction of the maximum horsepower whilst also protecting the engine to the highest level. Having a tuned knock sensor is an incredible step forwards for the longevity of the Speed 6. Detonation is/has been a significant problem especially with number 6 cylinder and having the software and algorithms within the ECU to sense the onset of detonation and immediately protect the engine is critical. This system also protects the engine against a poor batch of fuel or detonation caused by rising temperatures in the engine bay critically useful for track days. Racing Green TVR has fitted this ECU to many TVRs now and it really makes a significant difference to the whole way the TVR feels and drives Coupling this management system to the FFF engine really allows TVR owners to enjoy unprecedented levels of horsepower together with real time knock sensing and sequential fuelling for the ultimate in engine protection whilst traction control allows this power to be safely delivered in all conditions. Fitting the ECU to Standard Speed 6 engines and the AJP V8s really makes a fabulous difference to the way the car feels and drives as well as giving far better fuel control and defending the engine from the dangerous approach of detonation. Racing Green TVR has developed the fitting of this kit to a very high level. The ECU loom is renewed and even includes a network cable to allow the ECU to be communicated with over the internet. This allows this ECU package to be fitted anywhere around the world and mapped from the UK!!! To sum it up, there really is no other ECU to fit to TVRs. This price includes fitting but there are different costs relating to the different vehicles and required specification. Engine management upgrade for TVR Speed 6 engine .Complete Omex engine management upgrade for all TVR Speed 6 engines. This upgrade package has been developed by Racing Green TVR and Omex and offers a massive upgrade to the engine management of the TVR Speed 6 engine. The Omex 710 ECU lies at the heart of this modification and is a very powerful current ECU capable of running a V12 engine with sequential injection to 14000 rpm so the TVR Speed 6 is well within its control. This new ECU manages the ignition and fuelling for the TVR Speed 6 engine and also for the first time gives it full idle control as well. The comprehensive kit includes the internal engine loom from the bulkhead to the ECU, 6 new Bosch 4 point injectors, Bosch coolant temperature sensor, idle bypass valve and manifold and all associated pipework. Software maps are available for all variants of the TVR Speed 6 engine and once fitted this package gives increased power, smoothness, driveability as well as better fuel consumption. Cold start sequence maintains 1000 rpm whilst the engine warms up and 850 rpm is achieved at 50 degrees making the car far easier to drive from cold especially around town. Racing Green TVR has now fitted many of these upgrades and customers are all highly delighted with the results. This kit suits all TVR Speed 6 engines from 2001 onwards.
