Racing Green TVR have made a cam cover gasket made for the TVR Speed 6 engine. The cam cover on the TVR Speed 6 engine is normally bonded/sealed directly on to the cylinder head with a Locktite product. This is not always ideal as it means that there is a fair amount of work to take the cam cover off and clean and reseal it back on. There is also the possibility that the upper timing chain is hitting the inside upper front of the cam cover as the clearances here are extremely tight. There are often witness marks on the inside of cam cover in this area from the timing chains having just come into contact with the casting. The trouble is that if you tension the upper timing chains too tight it can lead to problems with the half time bearings so a bit of extra clearance is very good news as it allows the upper chain to be run slightly looser. The new cam cover gasket has been created to try and offer a solution to these problems. It is made from 3mm nitrile rubber and when fitted raises the cam cover by a similar amount hence preventing the timing chain coming too close to the casting. The gasket is also ideal for temporary sealing the cam cover when testing engines post rebuild, valve clearance setting and cam timing changes allowing the cam cover to be easily removed until all adjustments have been made prior to the cam cover being more permanently fitted. It is recommended that the cam cover and gasket are bonded together in the correct position using spray contact adhesive and that the retaining bolts are fitted with spring washers to prevent loosening.
