Ceramic coating for TVR exhaust manifolds

04/08/2008

Racing Green TVR has been testing a metallic ceramic exhaust coating for exhaust manifolds which reduces under bonnet temperatures significantly. In addition to contolling the extreme underbonnet temperatures the coating also provides excellent corrosion protection under the harshest conditions even at 750ºC. Corrosion protection has been tested to 5000 hours salt spray and the coating has performed excellently. The coated exhaust manifolds have a burnished chrome like finish which complements any engine bay whilst protecting all components in the immediate vicinity of the manifolds from the extreme heat. This reduction in underbonnet temperatures greatly increases component life as the extreme heats have a very ageing action on plastic or rubber components causing them to become brittle and fail. The TVR Speed 6 nearside engine mount is a typical example of a component suffering due to its proximity to the extreme heat of the exhaust manifolds. The exhaust manifolds are blasted and then treated internally and externally with 3 different coatings prior to being baked and finish polished. Racing Green TVR are offering the manifolds as an option on their engine rebuilds or can fit coated manifolds to order. Contact Martin at Racing Green TVR for further information.
