Further Developments of the FFF Cylinder Head

Following the unprecedented interest in the new Racing Green TVR Finger Follower Free cylinder head conversion, Racing Green is now able to announce further significant technical benefits to the FFF upgrade.

 

Racing Green TVR has now formed an agreement with the supplier of all TVR Speed 6 and AJP V8 engine castings to incorporate its FFF design into the existing Speed 6 head casting and supply complete new integrated FFF design cylinder heads. The further investment in the FFF design is expected to significantly reduce the cost of the new cylinder head to the customer.

 

Racing Green TVR now has the opportunity to modify the cylinder head detail to its own specification. It has been realised that due to the combustion chambers in the original cylinder heads being left in the “as cast” state and due to anomalies in the casting, cooling and machining operations there can be significant differences between the combustion chamber volumes on the same standard head. This leads to variations in compression ratios and hence can cause detonation issues with particular cylinders. Consequently this can result in failed pistons, liners, head gaskets and valves with these problems generally being focussed on particular cylinders.

 

The ideal resolution is to fully CNC machine the combustion chambers of the new head casting to give totally accurate and known chamber volumes. Whilst optimising the chambers it was also decided to fully machine all the inlet and exhaust tracts to identical proportions and hence give a “blueprinted” or perfect fully machined TVR Speed 6 cylinder head.

 

Blueprinting the inlet and exhaust tracts ensures that all port volumes and gas speeds are matched with a far greater accuracy than can be achieved by hand whilst gas flowing.

 

Racing Green TVR’s FFF conversion will now be available as a one piece cylinder head casting and all machining for the FFF conversion will be carried out by the original supplier to TVR but to Racing Green TVR’s new specifications. This FFF cylinder head will be exclusive to Racing Green TVR and will run lighter valve train components to further increase performance and valve seat material will change to steel.

 

Racing Green TVR will now offer the FFF conversion as a complete brand new fully machined cylinder head assembly and these new numbered and assembled FFF heads will be available from December 2008, initially satisfying existing orders. Complete cylinder heads and rebuilt Speed 6 engines incorporating the FFF head will be available, built to individual requirements, with a 3 year warranty.
