OMEX 710 engine management for the TVR Speed 6 engine

23/02/2009

Racing Green TVR and Omex have formed a technical partnership to develop the high specification OMEX 710 engine management ECU to run the TVR Speed 6 engine. This ECU is the current flagship of OMEXs stable and offers significant benefits over the standard, now obsolete, MBE management system. The OMEX 710 will run sequential injection for up to 12 cylinder engines so is very capable of running the TVR Speed 6 engine significantly better than the MBE. This engine management system is now fully incorporated into Racing Green TVRs Tuscan demonstrator and is already offering benefits such as idle speed control, current OE Bosch injectors, reduced number of engine sensors, better power, emissions and driveability. The OMEX 710 is fitted as a complete replacement ECU not a "piggyback" setup so can be considered as a direct replacement for failed MBE ECUs. This replacement OMEX 710 ECU kit is available exclusively through Racing Green TVR. This is one of the few "Type Approved" ECUs on the aftermarket and as such is significantly more proven than some of its counterparts. This demonstrator will be available on the 28th February 2009 for the Racing Green TVR Open Day where the FFF engine is being launched.

Idle control is now available and is programmed to 1050 rpm cold dropping to 850 rpm once fully warm. Only 1 of the 2 original throttle sensors is utilised for throttle position information giving greater consistency as well as greater overall reliability. The original TVR coolant temperature sensor is replaced with a higher specification OE part as are both lambda sensors. The air idle bypass valve is again a current OE part and the standard fuel injectors are replaced with current OE Bosch high performance multipoint versions. The crankshaft position sensor is retained as is the air temperature sensor. The system uses all original wiring apart from a modified internal loom to the ECU itself. The OMEX 710 is fully mapped to the TVR and all functionality of fan control, air conditioning and dashboard functionality is retained. The OMEX 710 is fully programmable, has advanced fault analysis and has 1/2mbyte data logging facility inbuilt. The ECU runs the latest version of the superb MAP2000 Windows programming software.

This ECU gives full capability for the engine management of all TVR Speed 6 engines currently using the "wedge" type MBE ECU which effectively means all TVR Speed 6 engined cars from approximately 2001 onwards. The ECU is supplied with the modified internal loom which allows the ECU to be a direct replacement for the standard ECU. The kit also includes the replacement sensors and injectors to allow the owner to get the full benefits of this upgrade. This kit is fully plug and play but may require a rolling road session to optimise performance.
